And I’m Off…

Although not technically arriving at the final destination, today marks the beginning of the journey. My flight to Hong Kong is not until tomorrow, but I needed to get to Los Angeles the night before because my big flight leaves in the morning. But why Hong Kong? And where did this even come from? Well, since I asked, I guess I'll answer. First, where did this come from? It actually started on another trip, we were flying home from and on the flight the boys were watching "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." If you haven't seen that movie yet, you should. But early on, the main character flies to Greenland and Iceland searching for something, and the adventure begins. The music, the movie, it all builds to an epic solo travel adventure, and it left me hungry for the unknown. Before landing, I had convinced myself that I was going to Greenland. Day 2: Living in the clouds

I didn't bother unpacking last night at the LAX airport hotel because I knew I would be getting up early to walk right back. My flight boarded at 10am , and I wanted to maximize my lounge time. I take it as a good omen that I was greeted by a warm welcoming sunrise as I strolled by the traffic control tower and made my way into security. To get to the lounge, you had to take a Polaris-labeled elevator up. It is an unassuming elevator door on the side of the main terminal walkway, and I felt like I should be doing a secret knock, or maybe a little slit opens up and someone asks me for the password. Once inside, I found a nice couch-chair-desk situation and quickly loaded up at the breakfast buffet. Some music, some drinks, more food… I was basically a couch potato for a few hours until it was time to leave the lounge and board my plane.
